A basic family vegetable. Nothing fancy, just plain country. I never had green beans without corn until I was an adult. It was basic family food. You can use a tablespoon of bacon drippings instead of the slices. Read more . The corn can be either shoepeg (my favorite) or yellow corn niblets. Ingredients:
3 1/2 pounds green beans |
1/2 medium onion, sliced thn |
3 slices bacon, cut into 1-inch squares |
1 1/2 cups frozen corn kernels |
Directions:
1. Put all ingredients into a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to maintain a slow simmer. Cook for about 3 hours or until beans are tender. |
