Coconut Macaroons With Mini Chocolate Chips

Found this recipe on . They are really, REALLY good. Has your traditional ingredients, but not made your traditional way! They can be made with or without the chocolate chips.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup egg white (5 large)
2/3 cup granulated sugar
10 ounces sweetened flaked coconut (baker's)
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
1/3 cup miniature chocolate chip (optional)
Directions:
1. In a heavy saucepan combine egg whites, salt, sugar and coconut flakes and cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until all the ingredients combine together, about 12-15 minutes. The mixture should be sticky and moist, not dry.
2. Remove from heat and stir in the almond and vanilla extracts.
3. Set aside on a dish and let it cool in the refrigerator about 30 minutes.
4. Stir in chocolate chips.
5. Preheat the oven to 300°.
6. Using a tablespoon, scoop tightly packed tablespoonfuls onto a baking sheet covered with a silpat or parchment paper.
7. Bake 27-30 minutes or until golden.
