This recipe was given to me by my mother. We really like them best when they first come out of the oven and put warm powdered sugar frosting over the top of them.
Ingredients:
2 cups sour cream
6 tablespoons crisco
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 ounce yeast (package)
1/4 cup warm water
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 1/2 cups flour (or enough to make soft dough)
Directions:
1. Boil cream and crisco, let cool. Add sugar, soda, salt and eggs. Mix well. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add to mixture. Mix all together with enough flour to make a soft dough. Place on floured surface and knead lightly. Cover and let rest 5 minute Roll dough about 1/4 inch thick. Spread with 2 Tablespoons melted butter. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon and spread on half the dough. Fold other half over and cut in 1 inch wide strips. Twist and place on greased cookie sheet. Let rise 1 hour, 15 minute Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Frost lightly with powdered sugar frosting while warm.
