A recipe that my mom made up and has been a favorite among our family ever since. The measurements in the ingredients are only a guide, you can adjust them to what you prefer, or to how many servings you need.
Ingredients:
1 lb beef or 1 lb pork stew meat or 2 1/2 cups cut up chicken meat
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoning salt
1 medium onion, chopped
1 -2 garlic clove (optional)
1 cup celery, chopped
3/4 cup red yellow and orange pepper, chopped (you can use all or only one color of pepper)
5 mixed mushrooms (optional)
1/2 cup bamboo shoot (optional)
3 cups white cabbage, thinly sliced
0.5 (14 ounce) bag chow mein noodles
3 tablespoons soya sauce
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
Directions:
1. In a frying pan, fry the meat in margarine or oil. Season meat with the salt.
2. Add the onion and garlic, fry for approx 2 minute.
3. Add the celery, peppers, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and cabbage and saute till the vegetables are soft.
4. Meanwhile, boil water for the noodles in a seperate pan. Once water has boiled add salt to water (your own preferance) and boil the noodles for approximately 4 minutes. I do not follow the package directions, because I find they get too soggy.
5. Drain the water from noodles. Rinse with hot water and add to the frying pan. Add the soya sauce and mix it all together.
6. Serve and enjoy!
