This no-fuss dessert requires less than 15 minutes of prep time, and the finished product is sure to draw oohs and aahs from guests of all ages. You can make it the morning of the party, and everyone will think you worked all day.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 1/4 cups milk
9 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 tablespoons dark rum or brandy (optional)
raspberries (optional)
mint leaves (optional)
Directions:
1. Combine first 3 ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk. Gradually add milk, stirring with a whisk. Set bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Cook, stirring constantly, 8 minutes or until a thermometer registers 160°. Remove bowl from heat; add chocolate, vanilla, and, if desired, rum, stirring until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth.
2. Pour chocolate mixture evenly into 10 (4-ounce) ramekins or small glasses. Cover and chill 8 hours. Garnish with raspberries and mint, if desired.
3. Tip: Mixing in a splash of rum or brandy for adults adds a little touch of sophistication.
4. Kids Can Help: Kids can stir the chocolate with the help of a parent and watch it transform into this delicious dessert. They can also garnish the top with the raspberries and mint.
