I signed up for PAC Spring 2009, and I realized that I didn't have very many dessert recipes. I searched for this one on RZ, and didn't find it, so here it is. I haven't made it in a long time, but I used to make it as a kid all the time. It's from Nestle 1965.
Ingredients:
1 cup chocolate chips
2 teaspoons cooking oil
1/2 cup shortening, softened
6 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon water
1 egg
1 cup flour, and additional
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup nuts, coarsely chopped
Directions:
1. Over double boiler, combine chocolate bits and cooking oil. Stir until chocolate melts and mixture is blended; set aside.
2. Combine shortening, sugars, vanilla and water and beat until creamy.
3. Add egg and blend.
4. Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder. Add to shortening/sugar mixture until blended.
5. Stir in nuts.
6. Spread mixture in a greased 13x9x2 pan. Spoon the melted chocolate over the top; run a knife through the batter to marbleize.
7. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 14 to 16 minutes.
8. Cool; cut into 2 squares.
