Chocolate Ice Cream

This comes from my uncle and aunt's Aroma Gourmet ice cream maker's recipe book. It's great and keeps for days in the freezer.
Ingredients:
2 2/3 cups granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cornstarch
6 cups white milk
4 eggs, beaten
6 semi-sweet chocolate baking squares, melted
1 1/3 cups half-and-half
2 cups cream
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Mix the sugar, cornstarch and salt in a large saucepan. Over medium heat, slowly stir in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to simmer.
2. Very slowly, add the beaten eggs and continue to stir.
3. Reduce heat to low and cook until mixture thickens slightly.
4. Slowly stir in the melted chocolate and whisk until all chocolate is combined and the mixture is smooth.
5. Slowly add vanilla, half and half and heavy cream.
6. Pour into a large glass bowl, cover and refrigerate for 2-4 hours or until mixture has chilled.
7. Then make ice cream according to your maker's instructions.
