Saw this recipe on and it reminded me of a chocolate steamed pudding so I just had to try it. Turned out to be an extremely rich, self saucing chocolate cake and very much like a chocolate steamed pudding which is so common in England.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 cup all purpose flour
7 t cocoa
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups hot water
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Stir together 3/4 cup of the sugar, 1 cup flour 3 T cocoa, baking powder and the salt.
3. Stir in milk, butter and vanilla.
4. Mix until smooth.
5. Pour into an ungreased 8 inch glass baking pan.
6. In small bowl, mix the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of brown sugar and remaining 4 T of cocoa.
7. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
8. Pour hot water over the top.
9. Do not stir.
10. Bake for 40 minutes or until center is set.
11. Let stand for 15 minutes and then serve.
12. Use the chocolate sauce in the bottom of the pan to spoon over servings.
