These cookies are a hit with the guys at my husbands work for some reason, lol! I hope you like them as much!
Ingredients:
1 cup melted butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup cocoa
3 cups flour (unsifted)
2 small, 10oz jars maraschino cherries
2 cups chocolate chips
1/2 cup condensed sweet milk
Directions:
1. Cream sugar and melted butter. Cool slightly and add eggs. Mix thoroughly and add baking powder, baking soda, salt, vanilla and cocoa, stirring after each addition. Add flour a mix well (dough will be stiff and crumbly)
2. Drain cherries and remove stems (if any), reserving juice.
3. Roll dough into walnut sized balls. Place on greased cookie sheet. Press centers down with thumb to make deep indentations. Place on cherry in each one.
4. In double broiler or saucepan over boiling water combine chocolate chips and condensed milk and heat on low until chips are melted. Add approx. 1/2 cup reserved cherry juice and stir till thick. If too thick add more juice in small increments. Spoon sauce over cherries, enough to cover each cherry but not so much that it's running down the sides. Bake 350 10-12 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet a couple minutes then remove to wire rack. Enjoy ;-)
