Chocolate Cherry Cake Dessert

Here is a new twist on an old favorite. This is a perfect last-minute dessert, especially since it mostly comes out of the pantry. You can’t go wrong with cherries and chocolate!!
Ingredients:
2 cans cherry pie filling
1 box yellow or white cake mix
1 stick margarine or butter (i prefer butter)
1/2 cup walnuts (optional)
1/2 to 1 cup chocolate chips
1 teaspoon almond extract
Directions:
1. Combine cake mix, butter and almond extract.
2. Mix as you would for pie crust.
3. Add nuts (if you like them) and stir.
4. Put pie filling in greased 9 x 13 pan.
5. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the cherries.
6. Then sprinkle the cake mixture on top of the cherries and chocolate.
7. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown at 350 degrees.
