This is a pretty cake when you cut into it - the chocolate batter sinks into the white one, orange-flavored, and is striking. This has a pound cake's texture. I love the combination of chocolate and orange.
Ingredients:
3 cups sifted all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup sweet butter
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup milk
3/4 cup chocolate syrup, stir it well
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 - 1/2 tsp orange extract
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to350 and put the rack in the center of the oven.
2. Grease a 10 tube pan or bundt pan. Dust it with dried bread crumbs.
3. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each.
5. Add the vanilla to the milk, stir it in.
6. Alternately add the dry ingredients with the milk: dry, milk, dry, milk, dry.
7. Pour about 2/3 to 3/4 of the batter into another bowl. Mix the orange extract in to that.
8. Turn the orange batter in to the prepared pan and level it.
9. Mix the chocolate syrup into the remaining batter.
10. Pour the chocolate batter over the white one, do not mix it.
11. Bake for 65 to 70 minutes, test with a toothpick.
12. Do not invert this cake. Let it cool completely in the pan on a rack.
13. When you cut the cake the chocolate batter will have sunk into the white part and looks decorative and pretty.
14. You can top with chocolate icing. I think it's extraneous and just dust with a bit of confectioner's sugar when presenting.
