Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground allspice
1/4 cup sugar
Directions:
1. Beat shortening at medium speed of an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating well. Add egg and molasses, mixing well.
2. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients, stirring well. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture, mixing well. Cover and chill 1 hour.
3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, and roll balls in 1/4 cup sugar. Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 9 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets, and let cool on wire racks.
