Chayote Squash--pronounced Chah-yoh-teh

This is a very mild squash and can be bland so it can handle aggressive seasoning. When I first saw this squash in the store I thought how the heck do you cook this thing? But we got some and I just fixed it like any other squash, since then I have found recipes, but have not tried yet. Read more . They are really good.
Ingredients:
2 chayote squash
garlic to taste
salt and pepper to taste
hot pepper sauce to taste
butter or margarine room temp.
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350.F
2. Cut squash in half remove seed.
3. With sharp knife score deep criss-cross pattern in each squash half.
4. Sprinkle each with garlic, salt, pepper and hot pepper sauce.
5. Spread room temp butter on top.
6. Place in baking dish .
7. Bake at 350.F for 30 minutes or until tender.
