I have waist length hair and this keeps my length looking shiny, soft to the touch and less frizzy. If you have very fine hair wet your hair down and leave it in for two hours. This is excellent on course hair as well. I have a girlfriend with African heritage and it works wonder on her hair. You can substitute a jar of plain banana babyfood for the bananas. This recipe works well if you only use the bananas, one liquid oil (olive or almond), one solid oil (shea or coconut) and one runny sweet (molasses or honey). If you don't have everything on hand do not sweat it. This freezes well.
Ingredients:
2 bananas, overripe preferably
1/4 cup oil (a mix of olive oil and almond oil. more course the hair, more olive oil)
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup shea butter (shea butter for more course hair) or 1/4 cup coconut, oil (shea butter for more course hair)
Directions:
1. Peel the bananas. Put in a sandwich baggie and freeze.
2. Once frozen put in the microwave and zap for 10 second blasts till soft. Freezing then microwaving really breaks it down so there are not lumps.
3. Put the shea and/or coconut oil in with the banana and zap till the oils are liquidy.
4. Put the almond oil/olive oil mixture into the blender. Drop in the banana oil mixture. Blend for 2 minutes.
5. Add honey and/or molasses. Blend for 30 seconds.
6. To use:.
7. Brush your hair out,.
8. If you have fine hair wet it.
9. Pull your hair back into a ponytail.
10. Apply the mixture.
11. Wrap your hair in cling film and us a hair tie to bun it.
12. Leave in for 2 or 3 hours.
13. Shampoo and condition your hair as normal.
