Caramel Apple Bars

A fall or anytime favorite. Mix this together for a caramel-apple type family treat!
Ingredients:
1/2 c. butter
1/4 cup solid shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 c. oats
1/2 t. baking soda
1 1/2 c chopped peanuts
filling
4 1/2 c. coarsely chopped apples, peeled if desired
3 t. flour
1 pkg. caramels unwrapped
2 t. butter
Directions:
1. In bowl cream butter, shortening and brown sugar until fluffy.
2. Mix the flour, oats, baking soda and peanuts.
3. Set aside 2 cups.
4. Press remaining crust in a 9 x 13 pan, ungreased.
5. Toss apple with flour and spoon over crust.
6. In a saucepan, melt caramels and butter.
7. Drizzle caramel mixture over apples. Top with 2 cups of reserved crust mixture.
8. Bake at 400 for 25-30 minutes, until lightly browned.
9. Cool before cutting.
10. Yummy with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream!
