This is a Better Homes and Gardens recipe. I make this in the fall when the apples are ready to harvest. A bite of crisp tart apple, a bite of caramel... yummm
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
2 1/4 cups brown sugar, packed
1 dash salt
1 cup light corn syrup
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
1. Butter a square pan and set aside.
2. Melt butter in medium sized pan. (I usually melt mine in the microwave and then add it to the pan to reduce the chance of burning).
3. Add sugar and dash of salt. Stir well.
4. Stir in corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk.
5. Stir constantly.
6. Cook over medium heat to 245 degrees or firm-ball stage (12 - 15 minutes). You can test candy by dropping a spoonful into ice water and then attempting to roll it into a firm-ball with your fingers. If it goes flat, it's not done. Wait until the candy actually can form a nice round ball.
7. Remove from heat.
8. Stir in vanilla.
9. Pour into buttered pan.
10. Set aside to cool.
