This is a fun way to make popcorn the next time you are next to the campfire at your favorite camp site. The kids will love it as well. Make it easy by mixing the spices at home and place them in a small container or a baggie twisted and tied in a knot. This will save you a little packing room for your trip.
Ingredients:
1/4 butter or 1/4 margarine, melted
3/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
4 tablespoons popcorn oil
1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
Directions:
1. Combine the spices and the butter in a small saucepan; set on the edge of the grill or on a stone surrounding your campfire to heat and melt the butter.
2. Tear off two 36x18 inch pieces of heavy-duty foil; fold each in half to form an 18 inch square.
3. Fold up sides, using your fist to form pouches.
4. Place 1/4 cup of the unpopped popcorn in the center of each pouch.
5. Pour 2 tablespoons popcorn oil over the unpopped corn.
6. Bring corners together, squeezing tightly to seal edges, leaving room for the popcorn to pop.
7. Tie a string securely around the tops of the pouches.
8. Tie each pouch to a long barbecue tool or a green stick.
9. Hold pouches over, but not touching the hot coals; shake until corn is popped, about 6 to 8 minutes.
10. Open pouches and pour butter mixture over the popped corn, tossing to coat.
