This drink is for a lighter Italian drink to serve at lunch, brunch or anytime you don't want a full cocktail but want some delicious flavors. It comes from Ina Garten's Back To Basics cookbook 2008. This was also on one of her love episodes. It is a lighter version of the evening cocktail she makes with the same liquor Campari. Campari is unique taste and bitter so have some ginger ale in reserve if you have guests with sweet teeth. See my note below. A great brunch would be Country Fresh Omelet ( Ina Garten Back to Basics) and this. Enjoy! ChefDLH
Ingredients:
6 ice cubes
1/4 cup campari
1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1 1/2 cups sparkling water (recommended -- san pelligrino)
orange slice, halved
ginger ale, optional
Directions:
1. Place the ice cubes in a highball glass. Add the Campari, orange juice, and sparkling water. Add a slice of fresh orange and serve ice cold.
2. NOTE: Campari is a strong flavor. If you are more into sweetness substitute in ginger ale for the Pellegrino water to make it more to your taste.
