Calico Bean Salad

A colorful salad thats sweet, sour and just plain good. Note this salad is better if made a day or two ahead of time for the flavors to meld.
Ingredients:
2 cups fresh or canned green beans
2 cups fresh or canned wax beans
2 cups canned kidney beans or dry and soaked kidney beans
1 can garbanzos or chick peas (same thing depends where you are from)
3/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup white or red wine vinegar
1/2 cup evoo (extra virgin olive oil)
salt to taster or lemon pepper instead of salt
1/2 large yellow onion sliced into rings and separated
1/2 cup thinly sliced bell pepper (your choice of color)
Directions:
1. Drain beans or place raw beans in bowl
2. combine and add green pepper and onions, mix well
3. combine the rest of the ingredients well in a bowl or shake in a jar
4. add to the bean mixture
5. refrigerate
6. shake or stir once in a while to allow everything to coat
7. serve
