This is an old recipe that came from my Mom. She left it to me in her book, and pages of her recipes, some were written on old envelopes, some on just small pieces of paper, and some just had the ingredients on it, and I had to figure out what the recipe was and what the method to the cooking would be - it was a great time - took me back to when I was just a girl, and had made a lot of these same recipes with my Mother. It's nice to share them with you all.
Ingredients:
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter (it needs to be butter)
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
salt
vanilla
1/2 cup seedless raisin
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions:
1. Combine sugar and butter in saucepan. Heat slowly stirring constantly until butter is melted and mixture is blended. Remove from heat, add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add dry ingredients,. Add vanilla, raisins and nuts. Blend thoroughly. Spread in 13x9x2-inch pan.
2. Bake a 350F for 20-25 minutes.
3. The quicker these squares are in the oven after the mixture is taken off the stove, the lighter the texture. I like them best to put a fine nut on top of icing rather than in squares.
