Butterscotch Meringue Pie

I haven't made this. All prep/cook times are complete guesstimates.
Ingredients:
3 eggs, separated
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
5 tablespoons flour
salt
2 cups milk
vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter
1 baked pie shell
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
6 tablespoons sugar
Directions:
1. Beat egg yolks, brown sugar, flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt and milk together until smooth.
2. Pour in saucepan; cook until thick, stirring constantly.
3. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and butter; mix well.
4. Pour in pie shell.
5. Beat egg whites until stiff; beat in cream of tartar, sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and several grains of salt.
6. Spread over pie filling.
7. Bake in preheated 400-degree oven until browned.
