Buttermilk Cutouts

If you like soft thick cut-outs, these are the ones for you.
Ingredients:
2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening, see note
2 large eggs
5 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
Directions:
1. In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
2. Cream together sugar, butter, shortening, eggs and vanilla until light.
3. Add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk.
4. Add more flour if needed.
5. Refrigerate until well chilled.
6. Roll to desired thickness (approx. 1/4-in) and cut.
7. Bake at 350° for 8 minutes.
8. Be careful not to over bake.
9. Frost and enjoy.
10. *I have also made with all butter and all shortening, I like half and half the best.
