From my Mom's Copper Kettle Cookbook. It is just a very good plain cake.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
Directions:
1. Cream butter and sugar.
2. Add eggs and beat well.
3. Add extracts.
4. Add dry ingredients alternatly with milk starting and ending with dry ingredients.
5. Pour batter into 2 greased 8 pans.
6. Bake 350 for 30-35 minute.
7. Let cool 1o min before removing from pans.
