Lithuanian recipe for potato pie made with potato, onion, butter and salt pork. Ingredients:
1 tablespoon vegetable oil |
1/2 pound diced salt pork |
5 pounds potatoes, shredded |
2 medium onions, grated |
3 eggs, beaten |
1/2 cup butter, melted |
1/2 cup milk, scalded |
1 1/2 teaspoons salt |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). 2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add salt pork cubes, and fry until browned on the outside. 3. In a large bowl, mix together the salt pork, potatoes, onions, eggs, butter, milk, salt and pepper. Pat the mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish. 4. Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), and continue baking for an additional 40 minutes. Let cool slightly before serving. |
