My mom and I have been making this recipe for at least 20 years. We even served this for brunch at my wedding! So easy because it's assembled the night before, so you just pop it in the oven in the morning. I have made this for Christmas morning every year since I got the recipe!
Ingredients:
1 loaf white bread
butter (for bread)
2 cups cheddar cheese
2 cups monterey jack cheese
1 lb cooked link sausage
1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies
6 eggs
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
Directions:
1. Trim crusts from enough white bread to cover a 13 x 9 baking dish. Butter each piece; lay it butter-side down in dish. Sprinkle 2 cups cheddar cheese over bread. Lay 1 lb cooked sausage over cheese. Add 2 cups jack cheese over sausage. Beat eggs, milk, chiles and seasonings in separate bowl and pour over bread into pan. Chill overnight.
2. Bake uncovered in 325 degree oven for 50 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
