This is a Southern Living Best Recipe from 1970.
Ingredients:
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 (1 lb.)box light brown sugar
5 large eggs
3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teas. salt
1/2 teas. baking powder
1 cup evaporated milk
1 teas. vanilla extract
brown sugar glaze
1/2 cup butter
1 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup evaporated milk
3 c powered sugar
1 teas. vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Cake:
2. Beat Shortening, butter and bronwn sugar at medium speed for 2 mins. until creamy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each.
3. Combine flour, salt and baking powder; add alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla and pour batter into greased and floured 12 cup bundt pan. Bake 300 for l hour and 15 minutes or until long pick comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes and then remove from pan and cool on wire rack. Pour wam Brown Sugar Glaze over cake. Let stand 30 minutes until glaze is firm.
4. Brown Sugar Glaze:
5. Melt butter in medium saucepan. Wisk in brown sugar and cook 1 minute.
6. Add milk, powdered sugar, vanilla; wisk until creamy. Remove from heat and immediately pour over cooled cake.
