Bread Pudding With Whiskey Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 cups coarse bread
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 8 tbsp margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup whiskey

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, tear bread into small chunks. For best results use stale bread.
  2. In a saucepan, scald milk and pour over bread.
  3. Cool and add remaining ingredients, mixing well.
  4. Pour into a 11/2 quart casserole coated with cooking spray.
  5. Place dish in a pan of hot water (1 inch deep) and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, or until a table knife inserted into pudding comes out clean.
  6. Sauce:
  7. Cook margarine and sugar together in a double boiler until mixture is hot and thick and sugar is dissolved.
  8. Remove from heat. Add egg and beat.
  9. Cool slightly and add whiskey.
  10. Serve over pudding.
