GGrandma Cora Deely's recipe for bread and butter pickles.
Ingredients:
1 quart sliced cucumber
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 cup sugar
3 cloves
1 slice onion
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 1/2 cups vinegar
1/2 cup salt (for soaking cucumbers)
Directions:
1. Let cucumbers stand in salted water (about 1/2 cup) for 2 or more hours.
2. Drain and rinse.
3. Stir all dry ingredients together.
4. Add vinegar.
5. Pour over cucumber and bell peppers.
6. Boil 5 minutes. Pack in jars.
