There's this cafe in West Hollywood, California called Kings Road Cafe. Everything on the menu is to die for, especially the Blueberry & Banana Smoothie. After weeks of paying $4 a pop every other day for this amazing piece of heaven, I was determined to figure out how to make it at home. I did it on the first run and just had to share it. ***Notes on the Banana*** I have tried this recipe with a near green banana as well as a perfectly yellow banana and have found that the flavor is so much better with a squishy, but not runny, over-ripe banana with lots of brown spots and bruises.
Ingredients:
1 cup orange juice
1 banana (over-ripe, fresh or frozen)
2 cups frozen blueberries
Directions:
1. In a blender, blend the orange juice and banana (using the blend or smoothie mode) until you get a consistent orange-banana juice.
2. With the blender still going, use the hole in the lid and slowly add the blueberries to the juice. Slow is important - if you go too fast, you get frozen-fruit suspended above the blades and have to stop the thing to shove all the fruit to the bottom so that the blades catch it.
3. You'll know when to stop blending when the smoothie has turned a beautiful shade of deep-purple and it has a thick, jamba-juice-smoothie-like consistency. If you have blueberry-banana juice, with a layer of gelatinous fruit on top, you've blended it for too long.
