A twist on the classic fondue for Halloween. This version is for kids but it also works well for more sophisticated tastes with the addition of vodka or kirsch to the raspberry sauce and brandy or rum to the chocolate sauce. The real beauty of this recipe is that it doesn't take a lot of cooking and because you can vary the dipping ingredients you can be sure to cater for most tastes! for example you can use grapes, walnuts, pecans, marshmallows, mango chunks, pineapple chunks etc. etc. Oh! Warning: this can get very messy so have plenty of napkins, bibs and paper towels to hand!
Ingredients:
225 g frozen raspberries
1 -2 tablespoon caster sugar
150 g good quality chocolate (at least 72% cocoa solids)
142 ml single cream
20 small bite size ring doughnuts or 20 miniature muffins
3 bananas
200 g washed and hulled strawberries
Directions:
1. Place raspberries and sugar in a saucepan and heat gently untill sugar dissolves and raspberries give up juices.
2. Break up chocolate into a saucepan, add cream and heat very gently until chocolate melts - stir frequentlyto ensure chocolate doesn't stick and don't allow to boil.
3. Taste raspberries and add more sugar if too sharp.
4. Taste chocolate mix. It should be dark and quite stron. If you prefer milk chocolate then add more cream to taste (not more than 50ml unless you want soup!).
5. Pour chocolate into a serving bowl.
6. Mash raspberries roughly with fork and place in another bowl.
7. Cut bananas into 4cm thick chunks (leave skin on to stop them going brown).
8. Arrange doughnuts, strawberries and banana chunks on a plate and serve. Let guests help themselves by dunking fruit and doughnuts into the sauce of their choice - try and encourage guests to use fingers to dunk into the sauces - after all this is Halloween so the messier the better!
