The blackberries are ripe now and I found this recipe to use when I pick some. It looks simple and great. From The Pacific Northwest (Williams-Sonoma New American Cooking) by Jean Galton.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs blackberries (or marionberries, boysenberries, or loganberries)
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream
1 cup sour cream
Directions:
1. Preheat the broiler (griller).
2. In a large bowl, mix together the berries and 1/4 of the brown sugar.
3. Pour into a flameproof shallow baking dish or 9-inch pie dish.
4. In a medium bowl, whisk the cream with 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar until soft peaks form.
5. Whisk in the sour cream.
6. Place dollops of the cream mixture on top of the berries, in mounds.
7. Sprinkle evenly with the remaining 3 tablespoons brown sugar.
8. Slip under the broiler about 2 inches from the heat source and broil (grill) until the sugar melts, about 2 minutes.
9. Remove from the broiler and serve immediately.
