Ingredients:
3 cup(s) sifted flour
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1 cup(s) plus 3 tbs. vegetable shortening
6 tablespoon(s) ice water
7 granny smith apples cored, peeled, and thinly sliced
1/2 cup(s) granulated sugar
1/2 cup(s) brown sugar
1 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon(s) ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon(s) ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon(s) ground nutmeg
3 tablespoon(s) all-purpose flour
butter for dotting
raw sugar for sprinkling
Directions:
1. For Crust Preparation:
2. Sift flour, remeasure, whisk in salt
3. Add to food processor.
4. Cut in half of the shortening, till finely incorporated.
5. Cut in rest of the shortening, till corsely incorporated (pea-size).
6. Add water, incorporate, form into a ball, cut into two equal sized pieces, form discs.
7. Refrigerate until use.
8. For filling:
9. Core, peel, and thinly slice apples.
10. Add sugar, spices, and flour.
11. Combine all ingredients.
12. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
13. Roll out one pie disc, line 9 in pie dish.
14. Add filling.
15. Sprinkle with additional flour, dot with butter.
16. Roll out second pie disc, lay on top or form lattice top.
17. Sprinkle with raw sugar.
18. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 mins.
19. Continue baking at 400 degrees for 45 mins.
20. Cool completely.
