These take a little effort but when done are tasty little wreaths and very pretty on the platter. Enjoy
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups butter softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
2 eggs
4 cups flour
1 egg white
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
red candied cherries diced into tiny bits as holly berries
green candied cherries diced into tiny bits as holly leaves
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400.
2. Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, sugar, orange peel and eggs then blend in flour.
3. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into ropes each six inches long and 1/4 in diameter.
4. Form each rope into a circle bringing one end over and through in a single knot.
5. Let 1/2 extend at each end.
6. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
7. Beat egg white until foamy then add 2 tablespoons sugar one at a time while beating.
8. Brush tops of cookies with sweetened egg white.
9. Press red cherry bits into center of knot as holly berry
10. Add little bits of green cherries as holly leaves.
11. Bake 10 minutes or until set but not brown.
12. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
