yet another recipe for beef & broccoli. this recipe is just a little different from all the others that I found on this site. Marinade time is included in cook time.
Ingredients:
1 lb lean beef (sirloin is good)
1/2 lb broccoli
3 tablespoons oil
3/4 teaspoon sesame oil
1 egg
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons rice wine
2 tablespoons peanut oil
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons soy sauce
Directions:
1. Cut the beef into very thin slices.
2. In a bowl, mix together the egg, garlic, salt, ginger, soy sauce, and wine; marinate beef in mixture for 20-30 minutes at room temperature.
3. Add oil to marinade, mix thoroughly, and marinate for another 30 minutes.
4. Mix the first 2 tsp of cornstarch with the five-spice powder, and add the meat to this mixture.
5. Cut the broccoli into small sprigs.
6. Mix the remaining cornstarch into the water and soy sauce.
7. Heat the oil& the sesame oil in a frying pan and saute the beef for about two minutes.
8. Add the broccoli and cook for five minutes, stirring constantly.
9. Add the cornstarch mixture to the pan, mix well and cook until thick.
10. Serve immediately.
