Spicy bratwurst and herbed tomato sauce bring new layers of flavor to slow-cooked beef round steak. Serve this great meal by serving the meat mixture over noodles or mashed potatoes.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 lbs boneless beef round steak, cut 1-inch thick
8 ounces uncooked bratwursts or 8 ounces other sausage, cut into 3/4-inch slices
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 small onion, sliced and separated into rings
2 tablespoons quick-cooking tapioca
1 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes with basil, garlic, and oregano, undrained
2 cups hot cooked noodles
Directions:
1. Trim fat from steak. Cut steak as directed. In a large skillet brown steak and bratwurst on all sides in hot oil over medium heat. Drain off fat. Set aside.
2. Place onion in a 3-1/2 to 4-quart crockpot. Sprinkle with tapioca, thyme, salt and pepper. Add steak and bratwurst. Pour undrained tomatoes over mixture in cooker.
3. Cover and cook on LO heat for 8-9 hours or on HI heat for 4- to 4-1/2 hours. Serve steak, bratwurst, and tomato mixture with hot cooked noodles.
