This is a wonderful dish made from scratch. Nothing instant about this recipe. This recipe has been in our family for 50 years, No improvements needed because it is delicious as is. I made it for a dinner at work and everyone wanted this recipe. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
3 tablespoons flour
4 cups milk
6 egg yolks, beaten
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 (12 ounce) box vanilla wafers
5 -6 bananas
6 egg whites
8 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, stir in sugar and flour, add milk and egg yolks. Stir constantly till a good boil and thickened enough to cover back of spoon. Remove from heat and add butter and 2 teaspoons vanilla. Let cool. Line 13X9 pan with vanilla wafers. Use entire box. Slice bananas over wafers. Pour pudding over bananas.
2. Beat egg whites till stiff, add sugar and vanilla and beat. Pour over pudding and brown top to a light brown.
