This recipe may be healthier than the normal baking powder biscuits that use bleached flour and lard, but they don't taste healthy! These are absolutely delicious for breakfast sandwiches or eating with honey...
Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
5 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
1/2 cup milk (plus more if needed)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
2. BY HAND:.
3. Stir dry ingredients together. Cut in cold butter with pastry blender, fork, or hands until mixture resembles a course meal. Mixing with a fork, add enough milk to form a soft dough.
4. Work gently with fingers and turn out onto a lightly floured board. Quickly bag into 1/4-inch thickness. Fold over in 3 layers and pat again into 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out with desired cutter and bake, close together, on ungreased cookie sheet for 12-20 minutes, until evenly browned.
5. BY PROCESSOR:.
6. Place dry ingredients and butter in processor. Use quick pulses to create coarse, sandy texture. Add milk and process until ball is formed, adding more liquid if necessary. Continue with recipe as directed in step 3.
