This biscuit recipe came from a famous restaurant I won't mention. Our group thought they were so flaky and buttery that we asked for the recipe. It's easy and basic enough to modify by adding herbs and/or shredded cheese. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar |
4 teaspoons baking powder |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup butter |
2/3 cup milk |
Directions:
1. 1. Preheat oven to 450°F. 2. 2. Mix dry ingredients together in bowl. 3. 3. Cut in shortening or butter until resembles course crumbs. 4. 4. Add milk gradually, stirring until soft dough is formed. 5. 5. Turn out on slightly floured board and lightly knead for 30 seconds, enough to shape. Important not to overwork or the biscuits will be tough. 6. 6. Roll or press dough 1/2 inch thick and cut with 2 inch floured biscuit cutter. 7. 7. Brush with milk. Bake on ungreased sheet in middle rack of oven for 12-15 minutes until golden on top. |
