Ingredients:
1 loaf(s) crusty bread |
8 eggs |
2 cup(s) milk |
1/2 cup(s) heavy cream |
3/4 cup(s) sugar |
2 tablespoon(s) vanilla extract |
1/2 cup(s) flour |
1/2 cup(s) firmly packed brown sugar |
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt |
1 stick(s) cold butter, cut into pieces |
Directions:
1. grease 9x13 pan - tear bread into chunks and evenly distribute in the pan 2. mix together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla - pour evenly over bread - cover and store in fridge several hours or overnight 3. in separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt - add nutmeg if desired - add butter pieces and cut into the dry mixture until mixture resembles fine pebbles - store in fridge 4. when ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 5. remove casserole from fridge, sprinkle crumb mixture over the top - bake for 45 minutes for a softer texture - bake for 1 hour or more for a firmer, less liquid texture 6. top each serving with butter and syrup |
