this is my own version of 3 Brothers Special Cheese Steaks from Wrightstown New Jersey. This cheesesteak was my first ever and I was hooked- after leaving McGuire AFB NJ, I had the opportunity to go back and retreive my medical records and while there I brought back 5 whole cheesesteaks frozen. Everytime we know someone is going there we ask for these sandwiches. So I made up my own version to get me through the long waits in between. Since I don't like the traditional Philly style I hope others will like this version also. The reicpe wizzard wouldn't let me put in the real amounts bascially in a 28ox box of cheesesteak meat you will use 12 sections for 4 sandwiches. use all for 6 servings and add more of other ingredients etc. (ie. 2 sections frozen steaksections per sandwich)
Ingredients:
8 ounces sandwich steaks, thinly sliced (like steakums or fresh from butcher)
1 cup slice onion (thick or thin)
1 lb sliced mushrooms
1/2 teaspoon season salt (your choice)
1 bell pepper, sliced (optional i don't use it) (optional)
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt and pepper
4 hoagie rolls
2 tablespoons sliced pepperoncini peppers
4 ounces sliced pepperoni
1/2 lb shredded mozzarella cheese or 8 slices provolone cheese
Directions:
1. in large non stick pan over medium high heat cook steaks broken up until barely pink add pepperoni and peppercini peppers.
2. in separate saute pan heat butter and oil over medium heat and saute onions and mushrooms and peppers until translucent onions or al dente if preffered.
3. season onion mix with salt and pepper and meat with season salt.
4. heat hoagie rolls in microwave or oven to toast if prefered.
5. place cheese in rolls either 2 oz of monzerella or 2 slices provalone on each side of roll.
6. then add desired amount of onion mixture to each roll and equal amounts of meat mixture.
7. can heat further in oven or microwave to melt cheese and serve.
