Aunt Mabel's Snowflake Pie

My aunt always made this for family get togethers and we always wanted to be the first in line when the desserts were brought out so we got some!
Ingredients:
9 inches pie crusts, baked and cooled
1 (1/4 ounce) envelope unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups milk
3 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
8 ounces cool whip, thawed
1 cup coconut
Directions:
1. Soften knox gelatin in 1/4 cup water and let set.
2. Mix together in a saucepan the sugar, flour and salt.
3. Stir in milk; cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thick. Cook for 1 additional minute after mixture thickens.
4. Remove from heat, stir in gelatine mixture and cool.
5. Beat the 3 egg whites; add cream of tartar and the other 1/2 cup sugar. Beat until glossy. Add vanilla and almond extracts.
6. Fold in Cool Whip and coconut.
7. Put in baked pie shell and refrigerate.
