Aunt Carol's Molasses Sugar Cookies

These are soft and chewy. They are the only molasses/gingersnap cookie I have ever liked. And, I love these. They are wonderful dipped in coffee.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening (do not use margarine)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup natural dark molasses
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
1. Melt shortening over low heat. Remove from heat and let cool.
2. Add sugar, molasses, and egg; beating well.
3. Add dry ingredients.
4. Chill.
5. Roll into 1 inch balls and roll in white sugar. Press down with a fork or glass on top of each ball.
6. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees.
