Asparagus Au Gratin

This is one of Mark Bittman's recipes recently published in Men's Health Magazine. I served this with a pork tenderloin and glazed carrots and everyone loved it.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 - 2 lbs. asparagus
1 tbs. butter or extra-virgin olive oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/2 c. grated swiss cheese
1/2 c. freshly grated parmesan cheese
1/4 c. fresh bread crumbs (i used canned and it worked out just fine)
1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley, garnish (optional)
Directions:
1. Break off and discard the woody bottom ends of the asparagus.
2. Steam or microwave, covered, just until tender- 5 minutes max.
3. Preheat the broiler and make sure the rack is about 4 inches from the heat source.
4. Use the butter or oil to grease the bottom of a medium, shallow baking dish.
5. Sprinkle the spears with the salt and pepper and place them in the dish.
6. Cover them with the cheese and sprinkle the breadcrumbs on top.
7. Broil for 3-5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
8. Garnish with parsley and serve.
