A different spin on Chex mix which we love. Wasabi is the Japanese version of horseradish and has a sharp, pungent, fiery flavor. Wasabi-coated peas add a fiery sweet flavor to the snack mix. If you choose not to use them in this recipe, substitute 1 cup sesame sticks. You can choose if you want to cook in the microwave or oven.
Ingredients:
4 cups corn chex
4 cups bugles original flavor snacks
2 cups chow mein noodles
1 cup pretzel stick
1 cup salted peanuts
6 tablespoons butter (or margarine)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 (1 ounce) package chow mein oriental seasoning mix
1 cup wasabi peas
Directions:
1. In large microwavable bowl, mix cereal, corn snacks, chow mein noodles, pretzels and peanuts.
2. In microwavable measuring cup, microwave butter uncovered on High about 40 seconds or until melted.
3. Stir in garlic powder, soy sauce and chow mein seasoning mix with wire whisk until well mixed.
4. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated.
5. Microwave uncovered on High about 5 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes, until mixture looks dry and crisp.
6. Spread on paper towels; cool 15 minutes.
7. Place in serving bowl; stir in wasabi-coated peas.
8. Store in airtight container.
9. Oven Directions:
10. Heat oven to 250°F
11. In ungreased large roasting pan, mix cereal, corn snacks, chow mein noodles, pretzels and peanuts.
12. In 1-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
13. Remove from heat.
14. Stir in garlic powder, soy sauce and chow mein seasoning mix with wire whisk until well mixed.
15. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated.
16. Bake uncovered 50 to 55 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes, until mixture looks dry and crisp.
17. Spread on paper towels; cool 15 minutes.
18. Place in serving bowl; stir in wasabi-coated peas.
19. Store in airtight container.
