Mom's Armenian friend's recipe. Its pretty and tasty, serve with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream on the side. I don't know how the gelatin got incorporated but the original apple cake recipe is Armenian and I think the neighbor lady Americanized it with Jell-o ! Read more !
Ingredients:
dough
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 tbs milk
2 tbs butter
6 medium apples
1 small pkg of cherry flavored gelatin
topping
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 stick cold butter
Directions:
1. Make dough by combining flour, baking powder and salt.
2. Cut in butter as for pie dough.
3. Mix milk and egg and stir into mixture to form a dough.
4. Line a pan oblong or round ( deep 8 or 9 inch cake pan ) with the dough.
5. Peel and cut apples for pie or cake.
6. Place into dough lined pan.
7. Sprinkle on the dry gelatin
8. Make streusal crumbs with the flour, butter and sugar
9. Sprinkle over apples.
10. Bake in a preheated 375 F oven about 45 minutes
11. Serve warm or cool
