Apple Oatmeal Bars

These bars are like an apple crisp with the crisp on the bottom and the top.
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup quick oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine, cut into small pieces
3 cups thinly sliced cooking apples
Directions:
1. Mix flour, salt, cinnamon, and baking soda.
2. Add brown sugar and oatmeal.
3. Cut in 1/2 cup butter or margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Pat 1/2 the mixture into a greased 8 or 9 inch square pan to make a bottom crust.
5. Put apples on top of this bottom layer.
6. Cover with remaining crumbs.
7. Dot with 2 tablespoons butter or margarine pieces.
8. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or til nicely browned.
