APPLE FRITTERS This is a recipe I obtained from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Crawford Estate in Quinlan, Texas in 1982. “I am submitting a recipe taken from my great-grandmother’s scrapbook and written in her own handwriting,” writes Mrs. Read more . Natalie Kreger, Waukegan, IL. “She was born in 1822 and she relates that the recipe was handed down in the family that originated in England and was over 300 years old. Grandmother entered the recipe for Apple Fritters in her scrapbook in 1853 before the Civil War.”
Ingredients:
1 egg
1/2 cup sweet milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup flour
apples
Directions:
1. Beat egg until light.
2. Sift flour and salt together then add milk and flour mixture.
3. Beat with egg beater until smooth.
4. Core and peel apples then cut in thick round slices.
5. Dip in batter and drop quickly in fat and cook until apple is soft.
