A traditional apple crisp/crumble courtesy of joyofbaking. Doesn't it sound luscious? I'm in!
Ingredients:
topping
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoons fresh or ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
filling
2 1/2 pounds (6 cups) granny smith or other tart apple, peeled, cored and cut into 1 chunks.
1 cup fresh berries, optional and your choice
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon lemon zest
3 tablespoons white sugar
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F/190 degrees C..
2. Place rack in center position.
3. Butter OR spray a 9 deep-dish pie plate OR an 8x8x2 baking dish OR 8 individual ramekins.
4. Set aside.
5. TOPPING:
6. Place all ingredients in food processor and process until crumbly.
7. Set aside.
8. FILLING:
9. Place apple chunks in large bowl along with berries (optional) and zest.
10. Toss with lemon juice and sugar.
11. Transfer to prepared dish(es).
12. Spread topping evenly over apples.
13. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes (20 to 25 minutes for ramekins) OR until golden and bubbly.
14. Remove from oven
15. Place on wire rack and cool for 30 minutes before serving.
16. Serve with whipped cream OR vanilla ice cream.
17. Refrigerate leftovers and reheat before serving.
