This one comes from an old donuts recipe. I changed a little in the ingredients, filled a piping bag with the dough and deep fried them. Choose between icing sugar or your favorite glaze to drizzle over them. Superb taste while still warm.
Ingredients:
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp. oil
1 cup apple puree (2 green apples, diced + 1/4 cup butter + 1 tsp cinnamon + 1/4 sugar)
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
3 cup flour
1 tsp. salt
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
vegetable oil for frying
Directions:
1. Apple pure:
2. Melt the butter with the sugar until sugar caramelizes, add the apples and the cinnamon and stir over medium heat until apples are soft, about 6-8 minutes. Transfer to the bowl of your food processor and pulse until completely pureed. Cool
3. Beat eggs and sugar until light. Add oil, apple pure and milk; beat until smooth. Sift remaining ingredients together; stir into apple mixture. Chill for 2 hour. Transfer dough to a pastry bag fitted with the nozzle of your choice and pipe over the deep frying oil at 375 degrees until lightly browned. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with additional sugar. Make 36
