Apple and Spice Porridge

This porridge is delicious and diabetic-friendly when made with traditional whole grain oats and yellow box honey.
Ingredients:
1 large apple, peeled, cored and finely sliced
1 cup oats
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
1 cup low-fat milk
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted
Directions:
1. Place the apple, oats, cinnamon, mixed spice, milk and 2 cups of water in a large microwave-proof dish.
2. Cook on high (100%) for 8 minutes, stirring every minute, until thick.
3. Set aside for 5 minutes.
4. Serve drizzled with the honey and slivered almonds.
